UPRISE exists to make people safer, so we collect as little as possible and protect what we hold. We never sell your data. Full stop.

Who we are

UPRISE is a civic-safety platform operated in India. For any privacy question or request, write to grievance@uprise.org.in.

What we collect

Account: your phone number, your real name (kept private), your public or shield name, city, and gender only if you choose to share it.

Your Circle: names and phone numbers of the people you add, so we can alert them.

Location: only while SOS or Track my trip is running, to show your Circle where you are. We do not track you in the background otherwise.

Recordings: SOS audio is saved on your phone in your Proof Vault. It is uploaded only if you choose to back it up or share it.

Content: posts, comments, reports, movements you create or join.

Technical: app version, crash logs and approximate city for showing local content.

Protected report details

Details about an accused person (vehicle number, phone, description, photos) are encrypted and never shown publicly. They are used only to spot repeat offenders, and are shared with police or courts only through a documented legal process.

How we use your data

To run SOS, trips and check-ins; to show your feed; to verify reports and escalate movements; to keep out spam, abuse and false reports; and to meet legal obligations.

Who we share with

Your Circle (only what you choose to send them). Verified partner NGOs and authorities for verified reports. Service providers that host our servers and media, under contract. Government only when required by valid law.

Your rights (DPDP Act 2023)

You can see, correct, download or delete your data at any time from You → Settings, or by writing to us. You can withdraw consent at any time. You can nominate someone to act for you if you are unable to. If we do not resolve your complaint, you can approach the Data Protection Board of India.

How long we keep it

Account data while your account is active. Location from SOS and trips is deleted from our servers after 30 days unless it is part of a report you filed. Deleted accounts are erased within 30 days, except what the law requires us to keep.

Age

UPRISE is for people aged 18 and over.

Security

All traffic is encrypted (TLS). Sensitive fields are encrypted at rest. Please report vulnerabilities to support@uprise.org.in.

Changes

We will tell you in the app at least 7 days before any important change to this policy.
